Records tumbled and goals flowed as the road to the UEFA Champions League final was marked by dizzying comeback feats, unforgettable drama and an outrageous moment of magic

Agüero secures City record

Manchester City FC made early waves in the competition, not least with their performance away to SSC Napoli. Two weeks after a home success against the Serie A high-fliers, the return fixture was tantalisingly poised at 2-2 when Sergio Agüero posted yet another marker in his stellar career, slotting past Pepe Reina to become the club’s record scorer with his 178th strike. “When one guy achieves what he has achieved, there’s big congratulations,” said City manager Josep Guardiola. “He’s a legend for the club, for the history, and everybody has to be so proud of that.”
